Peiser's Outstanding Performance Earns NASL Team of the Week Honours
September 15, 2015 - North American Soccer League (NASL)
Ottawa Fury FC News Release
OTTAWA, ON - In what was one of the most entertaining scoreless draws, it comes as no surprise that a goalkeeper played a key role in the end result of Saturday's 0-0 tie between Ottawa and Fort Lauderdale. On Tuesday, that NASL named Fury FC keeper Romuald Peiser to the NASL Team of the Week following his standout performance where he kept the NASL's leading goal-getter off the scoreboard en route to his league-leading 11th shutout of the season.
Saturday's meeting between Fury FC and the Strikers had playoff implications for both teams. Fort Lauderdale, led by NASL leading scorer Stefano Pinho, had scored 11 goals in their previous three matches while Ottawa had shutout their opposition in two of their previous three games.
What happens when an unstoppable force meets and immovable object? Apparently a 0-0 draw thanks to several key saves in both halves by Ottawa's veteran keeper who is leading the league in shutouts with 11, goals against average at 0.82 and is second in wins with 9 and saves with 56.
This is the fourth Team of the Week honour bestowed on Peiser this season who was also named NASL Player of the Month for June. Back in July, Peiser set the NASL modern-era record for consecutive shutouts with 6 and consecutive shutouts minutes at 648.
Fury FC are about to embark on a road trip that will see them play three matches in eight days starting this Saturday in a re-match against the Strikers in Fort Lauderdale. Ottawa return to action three days later against the Cosmos in New York on September 22 and close out the grueling eight-day road trip on September 26 in Carolina. Ottawa will return home on October 4 when the club hosts FC Edmonton in a Canadian derby classic. Tickets to the match against FC Edmonton and Ottawa's final home match of the regular season on October 14 are available at OttawaFuryFC.com.
