FC Edmonton News Release
EDMONTON, AB - FC Edmonton announced, Sept. 15, the re-signing of forward Tomi Ameobi, midfielder Ritchie Jones and goalkeeper Tyson Farago. As per club policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.
Ameobi, 27, currently sits in a tie with midfielder Lance Laing for the team lead in scoring, registering seven goals in 12 North American Soccer League (NASL) appearances. In Amway Cup Competition (ACC), Ameobi registered an additional four goals in four matches of play against Ottawa Fury FC and Major League Soccer's Vancouver Whitecaps FC.
Jones, 28, has taken a leadership role with the team this season, wearing the captain's armband in the absence of defender Albert Watson in several fixtures. The Manchester United product has contributed four goals in 16 appearances and sits second-place in team scoring.
Farago, 24, has moved up the goalkeeper ladder as the 2015 NASL season has progressed. Farago's skills were on full display earlier this Fall Season when he found himself as the starter against Fort Lauderdale Strikers after a last-minute injury sidelined teammate Matt VanOekel.
"I'm delighted that a club like FC Edmonton can attract players like Tomi Ameobi, Ritchie Jones and what we all believe as a staff to be one of the best up-and-coming goalkeepers in Canada in Tyson Farago," FC Edmonton head coach Colin Miller stated. "I think they all show terrific leadership and professionalism and they all deserve a lot of credit because they have committed themselves to the club and to the city. It looks great for us as a club moving forward and we're very, very excited about all three players."
FC Edmonton hits the road next Saturday, Sep. 19 against Indy Eleven at Michael A. Carroll Stadium. Kick-off in Indianapolis is set for 5:30 p.m. MT.
