July 16, 2007 - South Coast League (SCL)
South Georgia Peanuts News Release
The South Georgia Peanuts, presented by Security Bank, lost for the first time during the second half of the South Coast League season on Monday night. Aiken beat the peanuts 17-6 in what was the worst loss of the season for the Peanuts.
The game started in promising fashion for the Peanuts. With two outs, Mike Caruso singled and Doc Brooks put the Peanuts up 2-0 with a home run to right field.
The Foxhounds answered with four runs in the bottom of the first inning. Three of the four runs were scored with two outs. The big shot of the inning was a two-run home run of the bat of Ben Bando.
After two innings of scoreless baseball, the Peanuts tied it up by scoring two runs in the top of the second. The wheels began to fall off so to speak for the Peanuts in the bottom of the third when the Foxhounds scored three more runs to take the lead for good.
The Foxhounds would go on to score four runs in the fifth and six runs in the eight innings. The Peanuts did add a run in the fifth and seventh innings. The Foxhounds had three home runs on the day as Bando was joined by Chad Miller and Josh Eachues in hitting balls over the fence.
Brooks led the Peanuts by 3-5 with three RBI and two runs. Two of Brooks' hits were home runs. Nick Prosise and Kyle Keen were the only other Peanuts with multiple hits as they each had two. Mike Caruso scored two runs.
The pitching was not that good for the Peanuts. Chris Webb, Austin Weilep and Jake Upwood combined to allow all seventeen runs. Mike Colacchio was the bright spot pitching two hits of no-hit baseball.
The Peanuts will look to even the series with the Foxhounds on Tuesday night. Dumas Garcia gets the start for the Peanuts. First pitch is set for 7:05. The game can be heard in South Georgia on "1450 The Fan" and online at southgeorgiapeanuts.com
