Peanuts Score Early and Often

Aiken Foxhounds News Release

AIKEN , S.C. - The South Georgia Peanuts put an eight-spot on the scoreboard in the top of the first inning and never looked back Tuesday night at Roberto Hernandez Stadium, defeating the Aiken Foxhounds 15-6.

Aiken starter Steve Dunham (7-8) had little success against the Peanuts' offense. Nine of the first 10 batters reached base, with the only exception being Josh Eachues who laid down a sacrifice bunt. Curtis Goodwin and Doc Brooks both had two hits in the inning, and Dunham left after just two-thirds of inning with the 'Hounds trailing 8-0.

The Peanuts would add two more in the top of the third on a Brooks single to lead 10-0. Aiken finally scored in the bottom of the same inning when Evandy DeLeon drilled a solo home run, his 12th of the season.

South Georgia starter Jerome Gamble (3-2) made life tough on the 'Hounds, allowing just two runs on six hits while striking out four in 6.0 innings.

After the Peanuts increased their lead to 14-2 after seven innings, Aiken threatened to make things interesting in the bottom of the eighth. Benefiting from three errors by South Georgia, Aiken scored four runs to cut the lead back to single digits.

Brooks led the Peanuts, who collected 16 hits, with a 4-for-6 night with three RBI and a run scored. Curtis Goodwin and Jasha Balcom added three hits apiece.

DeLeon and Tony Harper were the lone Foxhounds to have multi-hit games, as both players had two hits.

The Foxhounds and the Peanuts will conclude their season series on Wednesday night when they play at 7:05 PM at Hernandez Stadium.
