Peanuts Put Hounds in Pound

South Georgia Peanuts News Release


The South Georgia Peanuts, presented by Security Bank, scored a double-digit number of runs for the second time in three games. The Peanuts were victorious over the Aiken Foxhounds Tuesday night 15-6 to even up the three game series 1-1.

The game was never really in doubt after South Georgia put up eight runs in the top of the first inning. South Georgia sent 14 batters to the plate in an inning that featured nine South Georgia hits. Curtis Goodwin Sr. and Doc Brooks each had two hits in the frame while Desi Wilson and Steve Butler each picked up two RBI.

The Foxhounds put up a run in the third off a solo home run from Evandy DeLeon. In the bottom of the inning, the Peanuts continued to pour it on in by scoring two more runs. Doc Brooks picked up two RBI with a single to score Goodwin and Jasha Balcom. South Georgia then made it 10-1 in fifth when Goodwin hit a triple and scored on a Balcom sacrifice fly.

Late in the ballgame, Aiken did score a few runs. In the sixth, the team scored one run and the Foxhounds sent nine runners to the plate in the eighth to score four more runs. The eighth inning featured three errors from South Georgia. The Peanuts did add one more run in the ninth to finish the 15-6 victory.

Jerome Gamble got the start for the Peanuts and only allowed two runs in six innings of work. With the win, Gamble is now 3-2 on the season. Drew Shetrone pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning to finish the game for the ‘Nuts.

Brooks led the way for the Peanuts going 4-6 with three RBI, a run scored and two doubles. Goodwin ended up with three hits and three runs scored.

South Georgia looks for the series win on Wednesday night. Austin Weilep gets the start for the Peanuts. First pitch is set for 7:05. The game can be heard in South Georgia on "1450 The Fan" and online at southgeorgiapeanuts.com.
