June 26, 2007 - South Coast League (SCL)
South Georgia Peanuts News Release

The South Georgia Peanuts, presented by Security Bank, lost for the first time against Anderson this season on Tuesday afternoon. Playing during the day for the first time this season, the Peanuts fell to the Joes by a score of 6-5. The winning run scored in the bottom of the ninth inning due in large part to a Peanuts error.

Chris Webb got the start for the Peanuts making his debut with the team. It did not go quite as well as he would have liked as he gave up three runs in just 3.1 innings. In the first four innings, Heath Keel scored two runs and Richard Quihuis-Bell had two RBI while Kevin Noles had two hits and a run scored. The Joes also scored runs in the sixth and eighth innings.

It took a few innings for South Georgia to get the bats going. The Peanuts scored one run in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings. The eighth inning also included two ejections. Doc Brooks was ejected for arguing balls and strikes and manager Wally Backman then came out to make the same argument and was also ejected from the game.

Going into the top of the ninth, South Georgia was down 5-3. Nick Prosise led off the inning with a double and then Jasha Balcom walked. Both Prosise and Balcom advanced a base on a Dustin Taylor sacrifice. With one out, Steve Butler hit a two-run double that tied the game. The Peanuts were unable to score any more runs in the inning.

In the bottom of the ninth, Brandon Carter singled to lead off the inning. Ryan Pressley then attempted to sacrifice Carter to second. The toss to Johnny Washington who was covering first base went above his head and down the line allowing the winning run to score on an error.

Jasha Balcom scored two runs in the ballgame. Steve Butler and Mike Caruso each went 2-2 with a run scored and an RBI.

The Loss drops South Georgia to 23-9 on the season and ends an eight-game winning streak. The Peanuts will go for the series win on Wednesday night. Austin Weilep gets the start for the Peanuts. First pitch is set for 7:05. The game can be heard on "1450 The Fan" and also online at southgeorgiapeanuts.com
