November 8, 2011 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings News Release
Kalamazoo, MI- The Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings, proud member of the North American Hockey League's North Division, announce the naming of Robbie Payne as the Combat Hockey Player of the Month.
This announcement comes one week after Payne was named as the player of the week after his seven point (3 G, 4 A) performance against the Jamestown Ironmen on October 30th. That wasn't his only productive outing, as Payne's consistency has placed him second in the league in points with 26 and first in the league in goals scored with 15.
October saw ten games for the Jr. K-Wings and Payne not only lead Kalamazoo to a 8-2 record on the month, he scored nineteen points over the course of those games.
With his ability to find the back of the net, create plays, and stir up opponents (leads Kalamazoo in PIMs with 41), Payne has well established himself as one of the most dominant players in not only the North Division, but the entire North American Hockey League.
Jr. K-Wing Head Coach, Marc Fakler, has been lucky to have a player like Payne in his inaugural season, saying: He has a natural talent to score goals. Robbie is a gifted offensive player."
What Fakler doesn't overlook is the versatility that Payne brings to Kalamazoo: "(Payne) has also been reliable for us on the penalty kill and in other key situations. This is a well-deserved honor for Robbie for his recent play and continued hard work. We expect Robbie to continue to be a leader for our team."
The Jr. K-Wings will return to the Borgess Health Rink at Wings West again on Sunday, November 13th against the Jamestown Ironmen.
