Paul MacLean Joins Red Wings

Moline, IL- The Detroit Red Wings announced yesterday that former Mallards head coach Paul MacLean will join the team as an assistant coach. MacLean previously worked in the National Hockey League as an assistant coach with the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim and Phoenix Coyotes.

MacLean went 112-27-9 in his two seasons with the Mallards. In 2000-01, MacLean led Quad City to a 55-12-7 record on the way to the franchise's third Colonial Cup Championship. During the championship run, the Mallards set a UHL record for fewest regular season losses. MacLean's 2001-02 Mallards established a league record for most regular season wins (57).

Following the 2001-02 season, MacLean joined the NHL's Mighty Ducks of Anaheim as an assistant to head coach Mike Babcock. During MacLean's two seasons in Southern California, the team compiled a 69-62-19-14 record. In 2002-03, the Ducks appeared in the Stanley Cup Final vs. the New Jersey Devils.

In 2005, MacLean joined forward Hugo Proulx as the inaugural inductees into the Mallards Hall of Fame. With the Red Wings, MacLean will continue to work with Babcock as he was named the head coach of the Red Wings on July 15th.

The Mallards open the 2005-06 season on October 21st in Flint vs. the Generals. The 11th home opener in franchise history is slated for October 22nd vs. the Motor City Mechanics. Keep checking qcmallards.com for updated news on all team events.
