Mississippi RiverKings News Release
Southaven, Miss. --- The Mississippi RiverKings announced today that Head Coach Paul Gardner has been released from his duties with the team.
"We thank Coach Gardner for taking over leadership of our team in the middle of last season, and for doing such a great job for us," said Dave "Ab" Mattice, General Manager for the RiverKings. "We wish him all the best in the future."
Gardner came to the RiverKings after coaching the Hamburg Freezers of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga in Germany. He took over as coach of the RiverKings in December. The RiverKings finished the season with a record of 30-31-5, losing in the first round of the playoffs to the Tulsa Oilers in five games.
The franchise is working to complete its transition to the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) after a 19-year affiliation with the Central Hockey League (CHL).
The team will begin a search for a new coach immediately, according to Mattice.
