Pats Welcome Prince Albert to Town for Home Opener

Regina, Sask. - The Regina Pats (1-0-0) wrap up their home-and-home set with the Prince Albert Raiders (0-1-0) at 1:00 p.m., inside the Brandt Centre. Pre-game festivities begin at 11:00 a.m., at confederation park. The tailgate will feature a live DJ, socially-distanced games and free breakfast sandwiches, plus a free raffle ticket for your chance to win a brand new Bedard third jersey.

The Pats are coming off a 3-1 win on opening night, snapping their three game opening night skid against the Raiders (since 2016-17). Connor Bedard scored twice and Ryker Evans added two assists. Drew Englot scored the game winner, and newcomer Stanislav Svozil added an assist. Matthew Kieper got the win, making 21 saves on 22 shots. The Pats outshot the Raiders 39-22, with P.A. missing most of their key veterans, including  NHL first rounders Kaiden Guhle, Ozzy Wiesblatt and Nolan Allan. Regina went 0-for-4 on the power play and 2-for-2 on the kill.

Last night, Regina Pats 16-year-old forward Connor Bedard wore an "A" on his jersey, becoming the youngest player in franchise

history to wear a letter...Sam Steel and Barret Jackman were previously the youngest to have a letter, with both being 17-years-old.

The rematch today is a game that will be televised nationally on CBC. It will also be available on 620 CKRM and WHL Live.

LAST SEASON:

The Regiment finished their 2020-21 Hub Centre season 9-12-2-1, which finished the Pats 5th in the division, while being outscored 76-96. Their power play ranked 11th (22.3%) while their penalty kill finished 11th (78.1%). Connor Bedard took home rookie of the year, while Ryker Evans produced 28 points from the backend, leading to being drafted in the second round by the Seattle Kraken.

There are 20 players returning from last years roster, with 12 forwards, six defencemen and two goalies returning. This offseason, the Pats added Zack Stringer, Luke Bateman and goaltender Keegan Maddocks via trade, plus added rookies Matteo Michels, Zane Rowan and Borya Valis to their roster, along with highly anticipated CHL import pick Stanislav Svozil.

VS. PRINCE ALBERT:

Last season, the Regina Pats went 2-2 against the Prince Albert Raiders (17 GA - 14 GF) losing 6-3 to open the season on March 12th before grabbing a 5-3 win on March 25th and a 4-3 victory on April 18th after a 4-2 loss on April 13th. Faceoff eight times this season (four in the first half and four in the second).

The Pats are 157-127-11-11-6 vs. the Raiders all time and are 14-10-0 against the Raiders over the last five years. With a win last night the Pats are 2-3-1 in season openers since 2016-17 and are 2-2-1 over their last five home openers since that time.

COMING UP:

The Pats will play three games in five days next week, starting with a matchup against the Winnipeg ICE on Wednesday, October 6, followed by a road contest in Moose Jaw on Friday, and ending with a home date with Brandon on Sunday, October 10.

Tickets are still available for the Pats home opener on Saturday, Oct. 2 at 1 p.m. There will be a pre-game tailgate at Confederation Park starting at 11 a.m. for anyone with a ticket to the game.
