Pats Force Game Seven With 5-3 Win Over Blades

Regina, Sask. - The Regina Pats forced a game seven with a 5-3 win over the Saskatoon Blades on Saturday inside the Brandt Centre.

The Pats overcame a 1-0 deficit in the first and regained the lead in the third after the Blades tied it. The game was tied 3-3 early in the third and Connor Bedard snapped home his 11th of the playoffs to restore the one goal lead. Zackary Stantz would then deflect a puck into the net to give the Pats a 5-3 lead in the final frame.

Bedard finished the contest with four points, picking up a goal and three helpers. Stanislav Svozil also chipped in with three assists and Alexander Suzdalev scored twice. Tanner Howe added his second of the series and Drew Sim made 27 saves in the game six victory.

The Blades got a two goal game from Trevor Wong and a single from Jayden Wiens. Ethan Chadwick made 15 saves in the loss.

THE GOALS

First Period

SAS 0-1 at 9:42 - Jayden Wiens (4) assisted by Justin Lies and Egor Sidorov // The Blades got the shot on Sim who made the original save, but Wiens got behind the Pats' defence and put it past the netminder to give the Blades a 1-0 lead midway through the first period.

REG 1-1 at 14:53 - Alexander Suzdalev (2) assisted by Connor Bedard and Stanislav Svozil // Just after a Pats powerplay expired, Bedard sent the puck to Suzdalev deep and he one-timed it past Chadwick to tie the game up at 1-1.

Second Period

REG 2-1 at 5:04 - Alexander Suzdalev (3) assisted by Connor Bedard and Stanislav Svozil (PP) // Bedard dropped the puck to Suzdalev who was able to skate to the right face-off circle and left a wrist shot fly that beat Chadwick to give the Pats their first lead of the game at 2-1.

REG 3-1 at 12:45 - Tanner Howe (2) assisted by Connor Bedard and Layton Feist // Bedard broke into the Blades zone and made multiple moves to the left side and multiple Blades went to defend him where he found Howe deep on the right wing. He ripped a one-timer home to give the Pats a 3-1 lead.

SAS 3-2 at 17:34 - Trevor Wong (1) assisted by Brandon Lisowsky and Charlie Wright // The Blades went in on a quick transition into an odd-man rush where Wong put the puck through legs and past Sim to pull the Blades to within one at 3-2.

Third Period

SAS 3-3 at 1:04 - Trevor Wong (2) assisted by Charlie Wright // The Blades hemmed the Pats in their zone and Wright's long shot is deflected by Wong and past Sim to tie the game up at 3-3.

REG 4-3 at 1:59 - Connor Bedard (11) assisted by Stanislav Svozil // A nice pass from the Pats blueline to the Blades blueline by Svozil to Bedard that sent him in on a rush and he wired a shot past Chadwick to give the Pats the 4-3 lead.

REG 5-3 at 11:24 - Zackary Shantz (2) assisted by Riley Ginnell and Tye Spencer // Ginnell did some hard work in front of the net carried the puck past the net and sent a pass through the crease where Shantz redirected the puck into the net. After a review, it is called no goal, but after further review, it is decided that it was a good goal giving the Pats a 5-3 lead.

NOTES

Connor Bedard picked up a goal and three assists to give him 19 points (11G-8A) in six playoff games (averaging 3.18 points per game).

Stanislav Svozil had three assists to give him 12 points (3G-9A) in the playoffs.

Alexander Suzdalev scored twice to give him 11 points (3G-8A) in the playoffs.

Layton Feist picked up his first point of the playoffs, an assist on the Pats' third goal of the game.

Zachary Shantz scored his second goal of the playoffs (second career WHL goal).

Riley Ginnell picked up an assist that gives him six points (1G-5A) in six playoff games.

Tye Spencer picked up an assist to give him three points (1G-2A) in the playoffs.

Game seven will be played on Monday, April 10th when the Pats travel to Saskatoon to face the Blades at the SaskTel Centre with a 7:00 p.m. face-off.
