Pats Fall to Wheat Kings in Overtime

Regina, Sask. - Ewan Huet stopped 42 of 44 in a 2-1 overtime loss to the Brandon Wheat Kings on Saturday at Westoba Place.

The Regina Pats held a 1-0 lead after 40 minutes of action before a third period tying goal from Charlie Elick. Dominik Petr would be the hero for the Wheat Kings, beating Huet with just three seconds left on the clock. Cameron Kuzma would score Regina's only goal in the loss, as the Pats fall to 0-1-1 in pre-season action.

1-0 Regina at 19:01 - Cameron Kuzma (1), assisted by Brayden Smith & Zane Rowan (SH) // Zane Rowan starts off a 3-on-2 down the right-wing side before feeding the puck into mid slot for Smith who found Kuzma backdoor for the Pats first pre-season goal.

Third Period

1-1 Brandon at 12:44 - Charlie Elick (1), assisted by Eastyn Mannix & Anthony Wilson // Elick's long-range wrist-shot from the line beat Huet to the glove side to tie the game.

Overtime

2-1 Brandon at 4:57 - Dominik Petr (1) // With just seconds remaining on the clock, Petr chipped the puck past Brayden Smith for a 3-on-0 opportunity. He broke in on Huet and snapped the puck five-hole to win the contest.

The Pats finish their home pre-season schedule on Wednesday, September 13 against the Saskatoon Blades before ending exhibition play on September 15 in Prince Albert.

The 2023-24 season home opener is on September 23 against the Saskatoon Blades. The Pats will open the season on the road against the Brandon Wheat Kings on September 22.
