Pats' Brooks Named WHL Player of the Week

Calgary, AB - The Western Hockey League announced today that Regina Pats forward Adam Brooks has been named the WHL Player of the Week for the week ending April 3rd, 2016.

Brooks recorded nine points (2g-7a) to go along with a plus-4 rating in three games to propel the Regina Pats to three straight victories against the Lethbridge Hurricanes. Regina won the series 4-1.

On Tuesday, March 29th against the Lethbridge Hurricanes, Brooks tallied three assists to claim first star honours as the Pats skated to a 3-2 win in Game 3. The following night, Brooks netted his fourth goal of the post-season as the Pats took Game 4 over the Hurricanes by a score of 2-0. On April 1st, Brooks capped off a productive week as he recorded five points (1g-4a) to lead the Pats to a 7-2 victory over the Hurricanes which clinched the series. Brooks was named the game's third star for his efforts.

The 19-year-old native of Winnipeg, MB finished the 2015-16 regular season as the League's top scorer with 120 points (38g-82a) and a plus-41 rating while appearing in all 72 games this season. Brooks currently leads all WHL skaters in post-season points with 14 (5g-9a). The 5-10, 175 lb forward is in his fourth WHL campaign and has amassed 205 points (76g-129a) in 251 career WHL regular season contests.

The WHL has also nominated Jordan Papirny of the Brandon Wheat Kings for the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week award. Papirny, a 1996-born netminder from Edmonton, AB posted a record of 3-0-0-0 with a 1.00 goals against average and a .959 save percentage with one shutout. On Wednesday, March 30th, Papirny turned aside 34 of 35 shots to propel the Wheat Kings to a 3-1 win over the Edmonton Oil Kings in Game 3. The following night, Papirny made 15 saves to pick up a shutout as the Wheat Kings went on to win Game 4 by a score of 5-0. Papirny was named the game's third star for his efforts. On April 3rd, Papirny kept up his productivity as he made 22 saves to guide the Wheat Kings to a 5-2 road win over the Oil Kings in Game 5. Currently in his third WHL campaign with Brandon, Papirny has posted a 98-42-12-7 record with a 2.85 goals against average and a .907 save percentage with 12 shutouts in 162 career WHL regular season appearances.
