Pats Begin B.C. Swing against Giants

Regina, Sask. - The Regina Pats begin their Western Canada road trip tonight at 9:30 CST against the Vancouver Giants inside the Langley Events Centre.

The Pats are coming off a 5-2 loss on Saturday to the Winnipeg ICE for the clubs third straight defeat. The Pats scored first for their second straight game, getting a tally early in the second. Winnipeg would respond with four unanswered goals, taking a 4-1 lead into the second intermission. Alexander Suzdalev scored twice, while Connor Bedard and Stanislav Svozil each had two assists. The final shots were 33-30 for the ICE. Regina went 1-7 on the power play and 4-5 on the penalty kill.

The Vancouver Giants meanwhile are coming off 6-4 win over the Spokane Chiefs on Wednesday on the road. Zack Ostapchuk scored twice and Colton Langkow tallied three points (2G-1A), helping the Giants snap their two game losing-streak. Brett Mirwald got the win, allowing four goals on 38 shots. The final shots were 38-32 for the Chiefs. Vancouver was 2-6 on the power play and 7-7 on the penalty kill.

It's the first meeting for the Pats against the Vancouver Giants since October 12, 2019 where Regina won 4-2 at home. The last time Regina was in Vancouver, the Pats lost 10-4 on November 16, 2018. The Regina Pats acquired 2002-born forward Riley Ginnell from the Moose Jaw Warriors in exchange for a 2026 fifth-round pick. The Calgary, Alta. product set career highs in games (62), goals (14), assists (20) and points (34) with the Brandon Wheat Kings last season.

To go along with Connor Bedard's now 21 game point-streak which has tied his career-high of 21, he's recorded nine straight multi-point games with 26 points (9G-17A) during that time and has goals in five of his last six contests.

The Regina Pats reassigned 2002-born forward Jakob Brook to the Dauphin Kings (MJHL) and 2003-born forward Logan Linklater to the Kindersley Clippers (SJHL).
