Pats Alumnus Evans Reaches Calder Cup Final

Regina, Sask. - Regina Pats alumnus Ryker Evans and the Coachella Valley Firebirds defeated the Milwaukee Admirals 4-3 in game six last night to capture the Robert W. Clarke Trophy as Western Conference American Hockey League champions.

Led by former Stanley Cup winning head coach Dan Bylsma, the Firebirds, the top development team of the NHL's Seattle Kraken, joined the AHL as an expansion club in 2022-23 and are the first team to reach the Calder Cup Finals in its inaugural season since the Texas Stars in 2010. They will will host the Hershey Bears in Game 1 of the Finals starting on Thursday.

Evans, 21, has tallied 16 points (3G-13A) in 19 playoff games, leading all rookies in points and assists, as well as all playoff defencemen in points and assists. The Calgary, Alta. product scored his third of the post-season on Monday to give the Firebirds a 2-0 lead in game six.

The 6-foot, 191 lb. left-handed defenceman also scored a triple-overtime winner on May 15 against the Calgary Wranglers.

The Seattle Kraken 2020 second-round pick (35th overall) had a strong regular season as well, recording 44 points (6G-38A) in 71 games. He was named to the AHL All-Rookie Team and attended the AHL All-Star game, after leading all rookie defencemen in points and assists this past season.
