Walla Walla Sweets News Release

A hot dog, an ice cold beer and baseball go together. In the iconic baseball movie, "Field of Dreams", James Earl Jones wants a dog and a beer when he's hauled off to Fenway Park. During the summer of 2011 at Borleske Stadium, fans looking for a brew will be able to get one of Laht Neppur's ice cold beer selections.

Partnering with the Walla Walla Sweets for a second summer, the Laht Neppur Brewing Company will be the official microbrew at Borleske Stadium. It also was the proud host of the Sweets 2nd annual Hot Stove event that was held on May 5.

"Baseball and beer: what could be more American?" Laht Neppur owner Court Ruppenthal said. "That's what we first thought when we heard about plans for a summer league baseball team coming to Borleske Stadium."

Laht Neppur was a part of the Sweets inaugural summer in Walla Walla and in 2011 they will be even more visible at Borleske Stadium. The Laht Neppur Outfield Pub was recently constructed beyond the right-center field fence and fans will be able to get their favorite Laht Neppur beer at the ballpark. Selections include the Sweets Pale Ale, India Pale Ale (IPA), Katie's Kolsch and the Peach Hefeweizen.

Relatively young, Ruppenthal opened his business on June 3, 2006 and will celebrate his fifth year anniversary on the Sweets' Opening Day. Laht Neppur has already begun leaving its footprint not only in the Walla Walla and Touchet Valleys but around the state of Washington. Laht Neppur has participated in the Untapped Blues Festival, the Yakima Fresh Hop Festival, the Ellensburg WinterHop Festival, the Oregon Brewers Festival, the Organic Brew Festival and many others in the Northwest.

Although Ruppenthal admits to facing many challenges being such a small brewery, Laht Neppur has been a proud sponsor and donator to the American Cancer Society, Blue Mountain Archers, Dayton Days, Valley Girls Barrel Racing Association, Waitsburg FFA, and the Waitsburg Quarterback Club.

"It was a pleasure working with the Laht Neppur Brewing Co. and serving their brew last season," Sweets Manager of Food and Beverage Phil Giammalva said. "The new Laht Neppur Outfield Pub will give the company and the fans more exposure to one of the Northwest's best microbreweries."

The Laht Neppur Ale House opened in downtown Walla Walla last November, with their Outfield Pub at Borleske Stadium and their main brewery in Waitsburg, the microbrew is firmly entrenched in the community.

"Baseball and warm summer nights should be something everyone looks forward to," Ruppenthal said. "It can only be better with a cold glass of fresh beer in your hand and a roaring crowd."
