Participants for 1st Annual Rawhide Hitting Challenge

VISALIA-The Rawhide Baseball Foundation for Kids will be hosting the first of what will be an annual Hitting Challenge competition for high school baseball & softball athletes on Wednesday, September 7th @ 6pm.

Chosen softball applicants include:

- Makailah Hernandez, Redwood High School (Junior, batted .321 in 2016, Kiwanis Sportsmanship Award recipient)

- Mariah Mazon, Mission Oak High School (Senior, batted .486 in 2016, verbally committed to Oregon State Univ., EYL MVP)

- Korina Martinez, College of the Sequoias (College Freshman, batted .373 in 2016, pursuing Nursing degree at COS)

- Madison Montemayor, Redwood HS/COS (College Freshman, batted .311 in 2016, Scholar Athlete from Redwood HS)

Chosen baseball applicants include:

- Jacob Bower, Redwood High School (Senior, batted .330 in 2016, Interact Club Member, 1st Team All-League WYL)

- Holden Powell, Mt. Whitney High School (Senior, batted .344 in 2016, verbally committed to UCLA, has a 4.17 GPA)

- Adam Munoz, El Diamonte High School/FCC (College Freshman, batted .333 in 2016, attending Fresno City College)

- Isaiah Espinoza, El Diamonte High School/COS (College Freshman, batted .279 in 2016, attending COS for Kinesiology)

These chosen applicants qualified with the following:

Above-average hitting ability GPA above 3.0 Person who shows character on & off the field Will be attending college after graduation, or are currently attending college The hitting challenge will incorporate a variety of targets on the field at Rawhide Ballpark. There will also be a point scoring system in place. Each participant will get two minutes to hit as many balls as he/she can, with one 30 second break allotted at any time.

The boy & girl who score the highest amount of points will win a $500 scholarship from the Rawhide Baseball Foundation for Kids.

Select targets will also be worth scholarship cash or gift cards from various local partners including the Sunset Rotary Club, the West Visalia Kiwanis, local Target stores, Zeeb Commercial Real Estate Agent Marc Griffiths, & Scentsy representative Danielle Griffiths.

This will be a free event, open to the public.
