ROCHESTER, MI--- The International Hockey League is proud to announce that Bloomington PrairieThunder forward Don Parsons netted his 678th career goal to become the all-time minor league goal scoring leader. Parsons passes former Flint head coach Kevin Kerr (677), who retired after the 2004-05 playing season. The momentous goal was Parsons' 18th of the 08-09 season.
Parsons scored the tying goal at the 12:53 mark of the first period Saturday night against Flint. He netted the historic goal at just 20 seconds into the second period, putting the puck past Flint goaltender Chad Alban. Bloomington's Nick Goyens and Marty Standish assisted on Parsons record breaking goal.
The 39-year-old Boston, Massachusetts native is playing in his 17th season of professional hockey. He began his professional playing career in 1992 with the Nashville Knights of the ECHL, joining the team after he finished his senior year of college at University of Massachusetts-Lowell.
Parsons currently ranks first among active players in goals scored (678) and points scored (1,303).
The game is currently in the second period and is being broadcasted live on the B2 Networks.
