Parkhurst Red Card Rescinded and Applied to Columbus Crew SC Defender Tyson Wahl
Published on April 18, 2016 under Major League Soccer (MLS) News Release
NEW YORK, NY - The red card, and accompanying fine and one-game suspension, issued to Columbus Crew SC midfielder Michael Parkhurst was today rescinded due to a case of misidentification.
In the 86th minute of the April 16 game against New York City FC, the referee mistakenly gave Parkhurst a red card for denying a goal scoring opportunity. In the match report, the referee cites a case of mistaken identity as the red card should have been issued to defender Tyson Wahl.
As a result, Parkhurst will be available for the Crew's next match against the Houston Dynamo on Saturday, April 23 (7:30 p.m. ET, MLS Live).
Wahl will be unavailable for the Crew's next match due to the one-game suspension that accompanies a red card.
Additionally, Columbus Crew SC has submitted an appeal on behalf of Wahl to review the denial of an obvious goal scoring opportunity. The appeal will be heard by the Independent Review Panel under the Appeal to Review a Red Card guidelines.
