Los Angeles Sparks News Release

Los Angeles - Sparks forward Candace Parker was named the Western Conference Player of the Week for games played May 24 through June 2.

Parker's Player of the Week award is the eleventh of her career. She earned the honors after a 1-1 start to the season that included a double-double in the Sparks 83-78 loss to San Antonio on Saturday, where she scored 27 points and added a career-high 20 rebounds. Her 20 rebounds were the second-most in Sparks history, behind Lisa Leslie's 21 atop the franchise record books (June 19, 1998). This also marked her 41st game earning 20 or more points.

In the Sparks home opener, a 102-69 win over Seattle, she led the team to its largest win margin in history with a 10-point, five-rebound performance. After two games, she ranks first in the Western Conference (third overall in the league) in rebounding with 12.5 per game and fourth in the West in points with 18.5 per game.

Angel McCoughtry of the Atlanta Dream was named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week.

The Sparks will face the Tulsa Shock welcoming Skylar Diggins, the third overall selection in the 2013 WNBA Draft, on Saturday June 8 at 7:30PM at STAPLES Center. Season and group ticket plans, in all lower-bowl sections of STAPLES Center, are available now by calling 877-44-SPARKS (772757) or visiting LASparks.com.
