Waterloo, Iowa-After playing youth hockey in Illinois and moving to Iowa for juniors, Waterloo Black Hawks forward Ryan Papa will cross another state line to skate as a collegian at St. Cloud State University, the Hawks announced Tuesday.

"The coaches and all the players really made me feel at home," said Papa. "Distance definitely plays a part. St. Cloud is a seven or eight hour drive from home, so it's not too far."

Papa is spending the entire 2011-2012 season with the Black Hawks after appearing briefly for Waterloo last season and recording two goals and three assist in eight games. So far this fall, Papa has been in the lineup for all 19 games, notching three goals and seven assists. His ten points rank sixth on the squad. His goal against the Omaha Lancers on October 22nd was the second game-winner of his USHL career.

"Ryan adds both energy and skill to any line he is a part of," said Black Hawks head coach P.K. O'Handley. "It is no surprise that there were a number of quality programs who felt he would be a good fit, and I expect he will flourish with the Huskies."

Papa is the tenth player currently on the Black Hawks' roster to make a commitment to an NCAA Division I school. Former Hawks defenseman Andrew Prochno is currently a freshman for the Huskies. St. Cloud State is coached by former Black Hawk forward Bob Motzko.
