Four Score ...After scoring three goals in 16 previous USHL games, Omaha Lancers forward Greg Gozzo had a career night on Friday as he more than doubled his goal total with a four-goal effort in the 7-2 win vs. Lincoln. He collected two goals in the first period and then added two more in the third period, including the fourth goal with just one second remaining in the period. The big night for Gozzo came exactly eight months after the last four-goal game in the USHL when Anthony Greco accomplished that feat for the Des Moines Buccaneers on April 2nd, 2002.
Winning Weekend ...The Fargo Force snapped a four-game winless skid (0-3-1) when they earned back-to-back victories for the first time since their first two games of the season. After scoring a combined six goals over their last four contests, they broke out to equal a season high in goals during the 7-5 win vs. Tri-City on Friday. A hat trick by Austin Farley led the way while Alex Iafallo netted two goals. They fell behind 2-0 on Saturday to Tri-City, but scored the next three to record the victory which included two more goals by Farley and the eighth of the year by Bryn Chyzyk. Goaltender Reed Peters made 24 saves for his first win in nearly a month.
Heading Home ...The Sioux City Musketeers wrapped up a six-game road stretch by collecting a pair of wins over the weekend. They earned points in the final three games of that stretch (0-2-1) and finished the six games with a 3-2-1 record. David Henry scored a goal in both weekend victories, including the game-winner in Friday's 3-1 win over Des Moines. He has scored four goals over the last five games. Brad Robbins scored the game-winner with just over four minutes to play in the third period of Saturday's 4-3 victory at Lincoln. It was his sixth consecutive game scoring a goal and his point streak now stands at 10 games.
Team Effort ...It was a productive weekend for Team USA in the USHL as the Under-17 squad earned five of a possible six points over three games and the Under-18 squad added a victory to give the club a total of seven points in the standings. Tyler Motte collected two points (1g, 1a) in Friday's 4-3 shootout win at Waterloo and then scored a goal for the fourth straight game on Saturday during the 3-2 overtime loss to Des Moines. Anthony Louis scored his seventh goal of the season on Saturday which is tops among Team USA and converted his shootout attempt on Friday. For the Under-18 team, a pair of defensemen scored their first goals of the season in the 4-1 win against Chicago as Jacob Trouba netted a power play goal and Seth Jones tallied the game-winner.
Rivalry Renewed ...The Dubuque Fighting Saints captured a pair of victories over Cedar Rapids during the weekend and are now 3-0-0 against their rival this season, picking up all three wins in a span of 10 days. Saints goaltenders were the stars in the wins as Gabe Antoni made 29 saves and then turned away all three attempts in the shootout of Friday's 3-2 shootout win. It was his 10th win of the season, tying for the USHL lead. Making his first USHL start, Collin LeMay stopped all 19 shots to earn the shutout in Saturday's 3-0 victory. Max Gardiner scored a goal in both contests, including the game-winner on Saturday.
Three for Three ...The Green Bay Gamblers picked up three wins in three nights over the weekend and have not lost in regulation in 11 straight games (10-0-1). They have outscored their opponents 51-17 over that stretch and have not allowed more than two goals in a game in five straight. Ryan McKay started all three games during the weekend and posted a 1.40 GAA and .933 SV%, extending his winning streak to five games. His next win will be the 50th regular season victory of his USHL career. Sam Herr tallied the game-winner in Friday's 3-1 victory over Chicago and then had multi-point games on both Saturday (1g, 1a) and Sunday (2a) to extend his point streak to nine games. Nolan LaPorte scored on both Saturday and Sunday in victories against Indiana to extend his point streak to 10 games, tying for the League best mark this season. Kyle Novak had his point streak snapped at 10 when he was held scoreless on Sunday. He tallied 15 points (6g, 9a) during his streak.
