Palm Beach Closes First Half with Win

June 23, 2022 - Florida State League (FSL)
Palm Beach Cardinals News Release

The Palm Beach Cardinals closed out the first half of the 2022 Florida State League season with a 7-3 win over the St. Lucie Mets in front of a frenzied Thirsty Thursday crowd at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium.

The Beach Birds finish the opening half with a 30-34 record, but were victorious in seven of their last 10 matchups, as well as nine of their last 12. Thursday's win over the Mets was their fifth straight dating back to May, spoiling the half's final game for the FSL East Division first half champions. The Cardinals also take a 5-4 season series lead over their foes from the north.

Palm Beach starting pitcher Inohan Paniagua had to work around two runs allowed in the opening frame, but settled into the game and exited his six-inning outing with eight strikeouts and three total earned runs surrendered. The righty was the winning pitcher.

Gustavo Rodriguez followed with a trio of scoreless frames on his way to a save, with four strikeouts on the evening.

Elijah Cabell and Adanson Cruz each logged RBIs in the second inning before Cabell would score from third base on a wild pitch in the second, as the Cardinals took a 3-2 lead. The Florida State product logged another RBI in the third, and Jesus Orecchia and Aaron McKeithan joined the party with their own runs driven in as well in the frame. Jeremy Rivas would cap the scoring in the seventh, reaching home from third base on a passed ball.

Orecchia finished the night 2-4 in his Palm Beach debut. Cabell was a perfect 3-3 with a double, while McKeithan and Brady Whalen each went 2-4.

The Cardinals will look to clinch a series win Friday night at RDCS. First pitch is at 6:30 p.m., and it will also be Dog Days of Summer at the Park! Dogs get in free with a human companion!
