JUPITER, FL- The Palm Beach Cardinals have released the Opening Day roster for the 2013 Season.

The pitching staff features eight lefties including; Jonathan Cornelius, Kyle Hald, Tyler Melling, Danny Miranda, Iden Nazario, Ryan Sherriff, Lee Stoppelman and 22-year-old Tim Cooney.

Cooney is a Wake Forest product, drafted in the third round of last year's draft (117th overall) and is the Cardinals' 25th overall prospect, according to Baseball America. He left Wake Forest ranked eighth in school history with 278 innings pitched and 235 strikeouts. Made his Minor League debut with Batavia last season compiling a 3-3 record in 11 games started.

Right handed relief pitcher Ronnie Shaban should be a valuable asset to the bullpen. Shaban was stellar with Johnson City (Advanced Rookie) last season as he led the Appalachian League with 16 saves, while collecting 31 strikeouts in 20.2 IP.

Despite starting the season on the DL, Ryan Sherriff will return to Palm Beach. Sherriff was impressive at the Advanced Class-A level last year, leading the team with a notable 10-3 record and piecing together a smooth 3.25 ERA.

A foursome of youthful talent will man the outfield in 2013, including top prospect James Ramsey, Nicholas Longmire, Anthony Garcia and Stephen Piscotty. Both Ramsey and Longmire are returners from the 2012 squad while Garcia and Piscotty spent last year in Quad Cities.

Piscotty was a standout third baseman at Stanford University where he batted .340 in three seasons. While playing in the Cape Cod Summer League, he caught the eye of many, earning the 2011 batting title. He was drafted 36th overall in the first round of the 2012 supplemental draft and Baseball America has him ranked as the 10th overall prospect in the Cardinals system. Piscotty spent last year at the Low-A level (Quad Cities) where he made his mark, compiling an .824 OPS.

Holding down the catching duties will be Geoffrey Klein, Cody Stanley and Juan Castillo (starting season on DL).

Stanley was a St. Louis Cardinals' non-roster invitee for the most recent Spring Training where he appeared in four games . Last season at the Advanced Class-A level, he batted .280 in 157 AB while collecting 35 RBI's and 3 homers.

The infield will consist of Ronny Gil, Tyler Rahmatulla, Jonathan Rodriguez, Danny Steinstra, Colin Walsh and Matt Williams.

The Palm Beach Cardinals will host the Charlotte Stone Crabs on Opening Day Thursday, April 4th at 6:35 p.m. . All fans will receive schedule magnets presented by Tyson Any'tizers.
