Palace Face Red Hot Aztex On "Live Pink Night"

Crystal Palace Baltimore News Release

Baltimore, MD - In a clash of two of the hottest teams in the USSF D-2 Pro League, Crystal Palace Baltimore welcome the league-leading Austin Aztex to UMBC Stadium at 7:00pm this Saturday, May 29th. The evening will also serve as the club's first annual "Live Pink Night", a fundraiser for breast cancer charity the Tyanna Foundation and will include a live auction for the custom pink jerseys to be worn by the Baltimore players that night. The evening will also feature appearances by Washington Freedom players and the USA Cheerleaders. The event is sponsored by the James Joyce Irish Pub & Restaurant.

Palace Baltimore have won three of their last four matches, including two on the road. Their only defeat during that period was in fact at the hands of the Aztex in Austin two weeks ago. "In that game, they told us they felt we outplayed them," remarked Palace Baltimore head coach Jim Cherneski. "We had plenty of opportunities in the early part of the game that we just didn't finish."

The Texas club meanwhile have won three and drawn two of their last five games and have opened up a five point cushion at the top the 12-team league table, their most recent win coming last night at previously undefeated Miami FC.

Palace have turned their season around after going 0-3 to start the 2010 campaign. Last Saturday's 2-1 come-from-behind victory over the Timbers at UMBC completed the season sweep over Portland. "For the guys to come back with 20 minutes left in the game and score two goals was awesome," said Palace Baltimore head coach Jim Cherneski. "It was just a great display from the whole team."

Looking ahead to Saturday night's clash with the highest scoring team in the league, Cherneski had this to say: "They have guys that can score goals. We need to make sure that we are super disciplined in our team shape throughout and that we convert our chances. When we commit to our defensive shape, that's when we're seeing our best results."

For those fans who are not able to attend the match, the game will be video streamed live at live.palacebaltimore.com starting a few minutes before the 7:00pm kickoff.

LIVE PINK NIGHT Crystal Palace Baltimore has partnered with the James Joyce Irish Pub & Restaurant and the Tyanna Foundation in support of breast cancer awareness and prevention. Each $16 ticket purchased in advance via the special link on the Tyanna Foundation's website or the special button on the Palace Baltimore website raises $4 for the Tyanna Foundation.

A silent auction will be held during the game for the commemorative, pink jerseys to be worn by the Crystal Palace Baltimore players that night with all proceeds also donated to the cause. A mini-soccer ball autographed by members of the US Women's Olympic gold medal soccer team - including Hope Solo, Shannon Boxx and Lindsay Tarpley - will also be auctioned off in support of the cause.

Adding to the evening's excitement, members of the Washington Freedom women's pro soccer team will be in attendance and available to sign autographs. Furthermore, the nationally acclaimed USA Cheerleaders will be performing at the stadium, as well as taking pictures with fans. For more information on the Washington Freedom, visit their website at www.washingtonfreedom.com and for the USA Cheerleaders go to www.cheerleading-usa.com

The festivities will continue after the game at the James Joyce Irish Pub & Restaurant, generous sponsors of this special night. The James Joyce is located at 616 S. President Street in downtown Baltimore, so plan to stop by and hang out with the Crystal Palace Baltimore players, coaches and staff!
