Crystal Palace Baltimore News Release

Tampa, FL - In the final match of their 2010 USSF Division 2 campaign, Crystal Palace Baltimore was defeated by the Tampa Bay Rowdies in a nine-goal thriller, 6-3. The home side scored four goals in the first half hour of play. Chad Burt and Aaron King tallied the first two goals for the Rowdies, while Mozzesh Gyorio added a pair of his own. Neto scored the lone first half goal for Baltimore in the 40th minute. King got his second goal on the hour mark, while Baltimore head coach Jim Cherneski scored two goals just three minutes apart. Ricardo Sanchez rounded out the scoring with a converted penalty 20 minutes from time.

With only eleven players dressing for Baltimore in the final match, it was going to be a challenge right from the start to keep up with the Tampa Bay attack. The home side struck first just three minutes into the contest, as Takuya Yamada left a pass for Chad Burt, who unleashed a rocket from 35 yards, hitting the top right corner of the net past goalkeeper Mark Murphy. In the 12th minute, Aaron King stuck his foot out to direct the ball past Murphy for a quick 2-0 lead. One minute later, Mozzesh Gyorio hit a powerful strike into the left side of the net for a third Tampa Bay goal. The quartet of goals concluded in the 29th minute, when Gyorio again found himself in front of net. His low shot beat a defenseless Murphy for a 4-0 advantage.

Baltimore managed to break through five minutes before halftime, as Neto placed a shot past Rowdies netminder Daryl Sattler for his second goal of the season. The visitors nearly had a second goal in stoppage time, but Gary Brooks' one-timer shot off a pass from Neto rolled wide left.

On the hour mark, Tampa Bay notched their fifth goal of the evening. A turnover by Pat Healey was scooped up by King, who hit the top corner for his second tally of the night, and a 5-1 lead for his team. Baltimore bounced back just two minutes later, as Brooks made a graceful spin and pass to Jim Cherneski. The Baltimore coach fired the shot past Sattler for his first career goal with the club, cutting the Rowdies lead to three. In the 65th, Cherneski netted another goal with a shot from just inside the box, making the scoreline 5-3. It was nearly 5-4 in the 67th, but Val Teixeira's free kick from 30 yards was barely tipped aside by Sattler.

The result was sealed with 20 minutes to play, after Shaun Pejic was booked for fouling Maykel Galindo inside the box. The resulting penalty was converted by Ricardo Sanchez, making the final scoreline 6-3 in favor of the hosts.

Tampa Bay finishes their season with a 7-12-11 record, while Baltimore's eighth consecutive defeat leaves them with a final mark of 6-18-6.
