Crystal Palace Baltimore News Release
Baltimore, Md. - Crystal Palace Baltimore (5-10-5) travel north to play the Montreal Impact (6-9-6) at 8:30 p.m. in the Stade Saputo this Wednesday, August 11th for the third of four meetings in the regular season. A win against the Impact lifts Palace Baltimore over AC St. Louis into tenth spot and one point out of the last playoff spot.
Even though Palace Baltimore have struggled to find consistent form this season, they have fared well against their Canadian counterparts. Palace are one of only three teams to win in Montreal, beating the Impact 2-1 and then shared the points at the Maryland SoccerPlex in a 1-1 tie that Head Coach Jim Cherneski called "the best performance of the season."
With Montreal's 2-0 loss to the RailHawks over the weekend, they will be looking to pull away from the traffic jam that is developing for the last post-season spot with a big win at home. Along with Puerto Rico and Tampa Bay, Montreal are all sitting on 24 points but Puerto Rico and Tampa Bay both have games in hand.
Palace Striker, Gary Brooks will more than likely be the center of the Impact central defenders' attention. He has looked dangerous since being switched back to his favored center forward position and has found his form in particular against the Impact. He scored a blistering right-footed goal in the first meeting and then with a clever header back across goal in the second fixture.
Palace Baltimore's next fixture is against the Carolina RailHawks on Saturday, August 14th at 5 p.m. The game brings them back to Baltimore and into the Paul Angelo Russo Stadium on the Calvert Hall campus. Prior to the match, Palace Baltimore will host an open 3v3 tournament powered by Under Armour for all age groups at Calvert Hall.
