Danbury Trashers News Release
ST. CHARLES, MO-Alex Goupil and David Hymovitz played large roles in Wednesday's UHL All-Star Classic as Goupil scored a pair of goals and added an assist, while Hymovitz scored the game-winning goal in the final frame as Team Aquafina defeated Team Gatorade 9-7 at the St. Charles Family Arena.
Aquafina jumped out to a 3-1 lead after the first period thanks to a pair of goals from David Beauregard and another from L.P. Martin, both from Roanoke.
Beauregard would add his third goal early in the second period, while former Trasher Jim Duhart and Muskegon's Jeff Nelson would add goals to close the Aquafina lead to 4-3 by the time starting goaltender Sly Daigle was switched for Motor City's Rod Branch. Daigle stopped 19 of 22 shots faced during his time in net for Team Aquafina.
Beauregard closed the period with his fourth of the night at the 18:21 mark as Aquafina entered the final period with a 6-4 lead.
Goupil and Hymovitz accounted for all of Aquafina's 3rd period scoring. Goupil scored his first goal at the 10:09 mark to give his team a 7-5 lead after Gatorade's Ryan Keller scored earlier in the period to close Aquafina' s lead to a goal.
Goupil's first UHL All-Star goal was followed by Robin Bouchard's tally for Team Gatorade at 15:14 to narrow Aquafina's lead to one goal. Just 20 seconds later Hymovitz scored in close after a good pass from Goupil to give Aquafina an 8-6 lead. Duhart added another goal for Team Gatorade at 17:26, while Goupil's empty net goal from Hymovitz and Hugo Belanger sealed Aquafina's win at 18:55.
Trashers defenseman Donny Grover also was part of Team Aquafina and finished the night with a +1 rating and one shot on goal.
Team Gatorade out shot Aquafina 41-25, while no penalties were called during the game.
Danbury coach Paul Gillis served as Team Aquafina's coach, while Daigle and Hymovitz were starters. Hymovitz also served as the team's captain.
