
Pair of Lumberjacks Land on NHL Central Scouting's Midterm Rankings

MUSKEGON, Michigan (January 13th) - With the official release of the NHL Central Scouting's midterm rankings this morning, the Muskegon Lumberjacks are excited to announce that two current players in Forward Matt Iacopelli and Goaltender Eric Schierhorn have cracked the list in their respective positions along with three affiliate players in the Lumberjacks' system.
Matt Iacopelli, the Woodhaven, Michigan native, currently ranks as the 132nd-best North American skating prospect along with being the 22nd-highest USHL skater by NHL Central Scouting and is in his first season with the Lumberjacks leading the team in both points (36) and goals scored (23) to go along with a plus-six rating in 33 games played.
Iacopelli is committed to play collegiately for the Western Michigan Broncos out of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) following his junior career.
Eric Schierhorn, the Anchorage, Alaska native, comes in ranked as the 30th-best North American goaltending prospect along with being the 5th-best USHL netminder by NHL Central Scouting and, like Iacopelli, is in first season with the Lumberjacks compiling a 9-9-1 record to go along with a 3.02 goals-against average, a .913 save percentage, and one shutout.
Additionally, three affiliate players within the Lumberjacks' system have cracked the midterm rankings in Forwards Steven Spinner (Eden Prairie, Minnesota) and Dylan Malmquist (Edina, Minnesota) along with Defenseman Luc Snuggerud (Eden Prairie, Minnesota).
Snuggerud comes in as 61st-best North American skating prospect along with being the 2nd highest-rated high school player (Eden Prairie High School) and appeared in three games with the Lumberjacks earlier this season in November recording a goal and two assists to go along with a plus-three rating.
Spinner comes in as the 70th-best North American skating prospect along with being the 5th highest-rated high school player (Eden Prairie High School) and, like his high school teammate in Snuggerud, appeared in three games for Muskegon in November totaling a goal and two assists to go along with a plus-three rating.
Both Snuggerud and Spinner are committed to play collegiately for the Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks out of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) following their respective junior careers.
Malmquist comes in as the 199th-best North American skating prospect along with being the 20th highest-rated high school player (Edina High School) and is committed to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish out of the Hockey East Association following his junior career.
The 2014 NHL Entry Draft takes place this summer on June 27-28th from the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The Lumberjacks will conclude their eight-game road swing this weekend with a pair of games beginning on Friday at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube against the USNTDP Under-18 Team at 7:00 pm followed by a trip back to the Covelli Centre to take on the Youngstown Phantoms on Saturday at 7:05 pm.
The next pair of home games for the Lumberjacks will be on Friday, January 24th and Saturday, January 25th against the U.S. National Development Program at 7:15 pm, respectively. Friday's game against the Under-17 Team will feature the second and final trading card giveaway of the season along with the return of our "Jacks Win You Win" promotion. If the Lumberjacks win on Friday, every fan in attendance will receive a $5 Sport Clips gift card.
Saturday's game against the Under-18 Team will feature our annual "Jacks Fight Cancer" Game presented by Mercy Health Partners. Fans can contribute to the event in numerous ways in which proceeds will be donated to the Johnson Family Cancer Center, and more information can be found on the Lumberjacks' Facebook page by searching "Muskegon Lumberjacks." Additionally, our "Subway Saturday" promotion returns, where if the Lumberjacks win on Saturday, fans that attend the game can present their ticket stubs at any participating West Michigan Subway location for a buy one six-inch sub, get another six-inch sub of equal or lesser value for free.
Individual game tickets will be on sale for the next pair of home games over the next few weeks for the low price of $10 for adults and $6 for children ages 3-12 if they are purchased before the day of the game. Tickets can be purchased at the Lumberjacks' Box Office or by calling (231) 724-5225.
