Florence Y'alls News Release

JOLIET, IL - The Florence Y'alls had just a 1-0 lead entering the final inning, but they scored two very important runs in the top of the ninth to escape with a 3-1 victory over the Joliet Slammers Saturday night at DuPage Medical Group Field.

The Y'alls (21-13) have now won the series against Joliet after their six-run win last night. They had dropped their previous three series. The Slammers (13-20), on the other hand, have now lost seven of their past 11 games.

Florence took a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning on a Joe Lytle ground out, and the score stayed that way until the ninth inning. When the final inning rolled around, Florence started things off with two consecutive singles off the bat of Trevor Craport and Harrison DiNicola, and with a Craport steal of second mixed in, runners were on the corners for the Y'alls. Left-hander Mario Samuel got Axel Johnson to strike out for the first out, but the fun was just getting started.

A call to the bullpen brought in Trevor Charpie. Anthony Maisano pinch-ran for DiNicola at first, but he was caught stealing second base for the second out. Charpie, now needing just an out to leave Craport at third base, walked Jackson Pritchard. The Y'alls put Pritchard in motion, the throw to second was cut off by the shortstop Tyler Depreta-Johnson, but he bobbled the ball as Craport was running home and the run scored. Now with a 2-0 lead, Pritchard stole second and third base, and Rodney Tennie walked. With runners on the corners again, Tennie stole second but the catcher's throw went to third. However, Lane Baremore dropped the throw, it rolled down the left field line, and Pritchard scored from third for the 3-0 lead.

All in all, the Y'alls scored two runs without recording a hit. It would prove to be crucial, for the Slammers loaded the bases on three singles and scored a run on a fielder's choice ground out in the bottom of the ninth. Andrew McDonald would settle down to close the door to record a four-out save, his second of the season.

Both starters were fantastic. Jonaiker Villalobos gets the win for Florence thanks to his seven shutout innings. He allowed five hits but struck out five. Cam Aufderheide gets the tough-luck loss after his six 2/3 innings of work and just one run allowed. He walked two and struck out three.

The Y'alls give Kevin Hahn the ball tomorrow, Sunday, July 4, looking for a series sweep against Joliet. First pitch is at 6:05p CT / 7:05p ET.
