SAN RAFAEL, Calif. (Aug. 13, 2012) - San Rafael Pacifics second baseman Chase Fontaine was traded to the Schaumburg Boomer for future considerations, Pacifics President and General Manager, Mike Shapiro, announced Saturday.

Fontaine will join Schaumburg early this week, as the Boomers - currently in first place of the Frontier League's West Division - look to hold on to their 2 =C21/2 game lead in the division.

"Chase has had an excellent year this season, the interest for Chase increased and we were able to work out a deal to send Fontaine to the Frontier League," Shapiro said. "I am so happy we offered the opportunity for him to move up, we're here to help advance people's careers and when that actually happens I feel very satisfied that we've done a good job in showcasing their talent."

Fontaine, a native of Albany, Georgia, was drafted out of Daytona Beach College by the Texas Rangers in the 18th round of the 2005 MLB Amateur Draft, but didn't sign. Fontaine was the 72nd selection by the Atlanta Braves in the second round of the '06 Draft.

The second baseman was third on the Pacifics with a .294 average (50 for 170), was second on the team with 35 runs scored, and his nine doubles were third most on the team. Fontaine had a .404 on-base percentage, and slugged .429 with four home runs and 25 RBIs in 48 games for San Rafael. He was also second on the team in stolen bases with 11.

In a corresponding move, the Pacifics acquired Boon Maeda from the Sonoma County Grapes. Details of that transaction were not released. Maeda hit .280 (45 for 161) with four homers, 15 RBIs and 11 doubles for the Grapes in 44 games.
