Princeton WhistlePigs News Release
Your Princeton Devil Rays will return to Hunnicutt Field for an important six-game homestand beginning on August 3. How many times have you been to the ballpark this year to root on your hometown Rays, who are holding their own with the Appalachian League's third best record and still in the hunt for the league's Eastern Division title? We will have more information to follow on the goodies and giveaways during the homestand but we will begin first with several pieces of information just for you!
GOING, GOING, GOMES: Jonny Gomes (2001 P-Ray) became the first player in Tampa Bay history to hit three home runs in a major league game when he went deep three times at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, FL on July 30 versus the Kansas City Royals.
A "FIRST" IN THE APPY: This past Saturday (July 30) was also a memorable night for P-Rays' pitcher Mike Wlodarczyk when he pitched a nine-inning 4-0 complete game shutout versus the Greeneville Astros at Greeneville's Pioneer Park. Mike became the first pitcher in the Appalachian League in 2005 to accomplish this feat and became the first Princeton pitcher to do this since Hector Febles tossed a six-hit, nine-inning 1-0 complete game shutout over Martinsville at Hunnicutt Field on August 1, 2001. A crowd of 48 P-Ray followers made the trip to Greeneville and made their vocal presence known to help cheer the Rays on to victory.
TEAM PICTURE SIGNING SESSION ON SATURDAY, AUGUST 6: Several members of the 2005 Princeton Devil Rays will be signing the team's 2005 team picture in front of the Princeton Kroger location on Stafford Drive on Saturday, August 6, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The pictures (which are courtesy of Kroger and Frito-Lay) are free and the public is invited to stop by and pick up a photo while also having the chance to visit with your team. There will be at least six players there to sign autographs during the first hour while a different six players will be at the signing during the second hour.

With the season almost two-thirds over, we want to thank our fans for being so vocal and supportive of our players. August is filled with big home games against the division- leading Danville Braves and also three games are left at Bluefield to complete the 2005 Mercer Cup series, which Princeton currently leads five games to three. We will see you at the ballpark and know you will be loud and ready to cheer on your P-Rays as we continue our best (to date) season in no less than the last six years.
