
P-Bruins Defeat Pirates in S.O.

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins defeated the Portland Pirates this afternoon in a shootout at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The P-Bruins had a regulation goal from Nicholas Tremblay, followed by shootout goals by Craig Cunningham, Nicholas Tremblay, Jamie Arniel, and Josh Hennessy.
The Bruins and the Pirates came out strong offensively and defensively this afternoon in the second to last meeting between the divisional rivals. Despite the Portland Pirates outshooting the P-Bruins 10-7, both teams went into the locker room after the first period scoreless.
The Pirates took a 1-0 lead 5:37 minutes into the second period. The point was scored by Nathan Oystrick making for his 11th goal of the season. Assists were made by Nick Ross and Andy Miele. The Pirates led the period in shots, with nine to the P-Bruins' five.
The third period opened aggressively with a shoving match between the P-Bruins' Bobby Robins and Pirates' Kenndal McArldle, resulting in five-minute majors for both players. The Pirates successfully held their 1-0 lead thought the midway point of the final frame of the game, with the P-Bruins getting only three shots off on Portland goaltender Justin Pogge. The tables turned at 13:18 when Nicholas Tremblay scored his first professional goal and point when he sniped a wrist shot through traffic and past Pogge from the top of the right circle.
The third period finished with a tie score of 1-1 bringing the P-Bruins and Pirates into a sudden death overtime. After five minutes of scoreless OT the teams went onto a shootout, where the P-Bruins outshot the Pirates 4-2 for the win. Cunningham, Tremblay, Arniel, and Hennessy scored four consecutive goals to win the shootout and consequently the game. With the win, the P-Bruins picked up their sixth point for the weekend and fourth consecutive win.
The P-Bruins are on the road next weekend. The club opens the weekend in Albany on Friday, travels to Springfield on Saturday and closes out the weekend in Connecticut on Sunday. The P-Bruins are back at The Dunk on Friday, April 6 versus the Worcester Sharks. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. for Walgreens Playing Cards Night, which are free to the first 3,000 fans.
