PHOENIX, Ariz. - Reno Aces infielder Chris Owings has been named the D-backs Player of the Year, according to D-backs' Director, Player Development Mike Bell.
Last month, Owings was named the Pacific Coast League Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player, marking the second-straight season an Aces player has swept both awards. In addition to being named a PCL mid and postseason All-Star, the 22-year-old was also awarded the D-backs Organizational Player of the Month Award for April, May and June.
Right-handed pitcher Archie Bradley was named the organization's Pitcher of the Year.
"Chris Owings and Archie Bradley had exceptional seasons," said Bell. "Both Chris and Archie's stats are among the best in all of Minor League Baseball and their character is second to none. We are ecstatic to honor both players with Player Development's most prestigious awards. Many Minor League staff members spent valuable time with them to ensure that Chris and Archie develop into successful winning ball players in the near future."
Owings hit .330 (180-for-546) with 31 doubles, 8 triples, 12 home runs, 81 RBI, 20 stolen bases and 104 runs scored in 125 games for Reno. Among D-backs prospects, he ranked first in games, at-bats, batting average, hits and runs scored.
His contract was selected by the D-backs in September, and he has recorded four multi-hit games with the D-backs so far. Selected by the D-backs in the 1st round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft out of Gilbert High School, Owings carries a .290 average over five minor league seasons.
