Overall attendance figures show slight increase
Published on December 7, 2006 under Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) News Release
BOUCHERVILLE, Thursday, December 7, 2006 - Although the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League saw a slight drop in its attendance figures after the first few weeks of the new season, fan interest now appears to be gaining some momentum. Attendance is up 0.2% over last month's figures, with the overall average levelling out at 3,444 fans per contest. The League should attract its one-millionth fan sometime in mid-December.
Four markets have maintained average crowds of over 4,000 patrons: Quebec City (8,891), Halifax (6,674), Moncton (4,577) and Rimouski (4,177). On the flip side, other markets are noticing lower attendance numbers.
The largest crowd of the season (14,482) was registered on Friday, September 22, at the Colisée Pepsi, as the Chicoutimi Saguenéens were in town to battle the Quebec Remparts for their home opener. Moreover, the Remparts have managed to attract more than ten thousand patrons on four different occasions since the start of the season.
