North Iowa Outlaws News Release

The North Iowa Outlaws showed something extra special in their 5-3 exhibition victory on Friday night, downing the Bismarck Bobcats at the VFW Sports Center. The win was nice for the Outlaws, but what was even more special was the performance of the Outlaws special teams, which accounted for three of the five goals. A special teams finished under 10% last season, was the high point of Friday's victory.

"It was nice to see us get our special teams off to a good start," Coach Boitz said after the game. "We struggled on the first power play but settled down and had some success. We won the race for the loose pucks, which was the whole key to the success."

The Outlaws struck first in the opening period as Bryant Skarda was sprung free off a great pass from Joe Harcharik. Skarda cut in around the defense and beat Mike Rielly to give the Outlaws the 1-0 lead. Bismarck however came firing back and sneaking one passed Moss to tie the game after one period.

In the second, the Outlaws special teams stepped up and took control of the game, scoring on consecutive power play attempts. Matt Morin got on the scoreboard with a nice wrist shot from the point that found its way through traffic and into the net. Morin's goal was followed by a 5-on-3 strike from Ross Ring-Jarvi with Tyler Jundt and Shea Walters assisting on the two man advantage. Harcharik finished things off with his second point of the night after Morin sprung him free in front, where he fired the wrist shot over the glove of Rielly.

The Outlaws held the 4-1 lead after two period, but the Bobcats struck again late in the game. With the extra attacker on, the Bobcats Kyle Maggard scored on the power play, putting an end to the Outlaws perfect penalty kill efforts to make it 4-2. Off the ensuing face-off, the Bobcats pulled Rielly for the extra attacker, but North Iowa held strong and Jack Paul scored an empty net goal to put the game away.

In goal, Robby Moss had a fine first outing, stopping 18 of 22 shots he faced. The Outlaws special teams went 3-6 with the man advantage and 6-7 on the penalty kill. The two teams face off again Saturday night in Bismarck. The game can be heard online at www.northiowaoutlaws.com or viewed on the internet through B2 Broadcasting.
