Chico Outlaws News Release

CHICO, CA - Jesse Kovacs led a 13-hit Chico attack with a home run and five runs batted in and Tyler Pearson - with relief help from Jake McLintock - won his fourth game of the year as the Outlaws downed the Reno Silver Sox 9-6 Sunday night at Nettleton Stadium, evening the three-game series at one victory apiece.

Reno jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning when Ryan Kowalski singled, stole second, advanced to third on a Victor Hall single and scored when Hall was thrown out trying to steal second base. The Outlaws went up 2-1 in the bottom of the 1st when Steve Boggs walked and Kovacs blasted his second round-tripper of the year over the right field wall. The Silver Sox used the long ball to go back out in front in the top of the 2nd as Mike Done homered with a man aboard to put Reno back in front 3-2. Chico knotted up the contest in the bottom of the 2nd when Kovacs delivered a two-out RBI single to plate David Pierson...the Outlaws then went up 4-3 in the 3rd when Pierson singled home Todd Gossage.

Back-to-back doubles by Boggs and Kovacs to start the 4th inning extended the Outlaws lead...then in the 5th Chico combined four base hits and a sacrifice fly to plate three runs off Reno reliever Josh Evans - Eric Pringle's line single to right knocked in Gossage...Ricky Bambino scored when Boggs blooped a single down the right field line...and Pringle came home on Kovacs' sac fly to center, giving Chico an 8-3 advantage. Pearson made the lead stand up, retiring eight Silver Sox batters in a row and 14 of 16 at one point...but in the 8th Reno climbed back into the contest when Juan Senreiso blasted a three-run homer to center, cutting the Outlaws lead to 8-6. But that would be as close as the Silver Sox would get, as McLintock came in from the Outlaws bullpen to get the final two outs in the 8th. Chico plated an insurance run in the bottom of the 8th - Gossage's two-out bloop double to left chasing home Scott Dragicevich - then McLintock retired Reno in order in the 9th to lock down the Outlaws 11th win over the Silver Sox in 18 tries this year.

Pearson (4-3) allowed four earned runs and struck out four in seven-and-a-third innings to notch the win, with McLintock picking up his second save of the season...Reno starter Matt Parris (4-6) went just four innings in losing to Chico for the third time this year. Kovacs finished with a 3-for-4 night...Bambino went 3-for-5 and Boggs and Gossage had two hits apiece to pace the Outlaws offense; Ryan Kowalski went 3-for-3 as the Silver Sox collected nine hits on the evening. Sunday's win upped Chico's second half record to 2-2 and 27-15 overall...Reno dropped to 2-2 in the second half and 20-21 for the year. The rubber match of the three game series is scheduled for Monday, with left-hander Derrick Loop (6-2) getting the starting assignment for the Outlaws...right-hander James Johnson (0-3) will take the mound for the Silver Sox. Game time is 7:05pm...hear all the action with "The Voice" of the Outlaws, Rory Miller, beginning at 6:35pm on the internet or on SportsFan 101.7 FM ESPN Radio.
