Chico Outlaws News Release

CHICO, CA - The Reno Silver Sox proved why it's the top offensive team in the Golden Baseball League Friday night - the visiting Silver Sox pounded out 17 hits and handed the Chico Outlaws an 11-7 defeat in front of over 3,200 at Nettleton Stadium...Reno sweeping the two game mini-series with the Outlaws and running its current winning streak to four straight.

Chico got on the board first, plating a pair in the 2nd inning against Reno starting pitcher Mike Spiegle - Lino Garcia knocked in Craig Kuzmic with a ground-rule double and scored later in the frame, coming home from third on a wild pitch. A solo home run by Victor Hall in the top of the 3rd cut the Outlaws lead in half...but in the bottom of the inning Kuzmic dialed long distance, blasting a solo homer over the left field wall to give Chico a 3-1 lead.

Reno jumped into the lead in the 5th inning, combining two Outlaws errors, a hit batter and consecutive RBI singles by Hall, Mike Done and Marcus Jensen to go up 5-3...but Chico tied things up in the bottom of the 5th when Kuzmic singled home Desi Wilson and Mike Mallory. The Silver Sox went ahead to stay in the 6th on Evan Sobel's two out, two-run single...then in the 7th Reno took a 10-5 lead on a run-scoring single by Philip Grau and a two-run double off the bat of Sobel. The Outlaws pulled to within three with a pair of runs in the bottom of the 7th (Jason Van Meetren singling home Mallory and Kuzmic scoring on a Garcia sacrifice fly), but Reno added an insurance run in the 8th against Chico reliever Mike Cosgrove...Silver Sox closer Scott Schneider then came on to blank the Outlaws in the 8th and 9th innings to seal the victory.

Nate Sevier (1-0) picked up the win in relief for Reno, while George Huguet (0-1), the second of five Outlaws pitchers on the night, took the loss. Sobel led the Silver Sox attack with three hits and four RBI...Hall finished 3-for-5 on the night with three others - Jensen, Edgar Varela and Carlos Madrid - chipping in with two safeties apiece. The Outlaws had nine hits, with Kumic going 3-for-3 with three RBI and three runs scored; Van Meetren also had three hits for Chico, who with Friday's loss fell to 5-4 on the year and into third place in the Golden Baseball League...Reno improved to a league-best 6-2 on the year. The Outlaws and Silver Sox meet again tomorrow, this time at Peccole Park on the University of Nevada, Reno campus...Chico will send left-hander Alex Perez (1-0) to the mound, while Reno counters with lefty Jason Martinez (0-1). Game time is 6:35pm.
