San Diego Surf Dawgs News Release

SAN DIEGO - It was another tough night for the San Diego offense, only producing five hits on the evening. Armada starting pitcher Ryan Claypool (1-0) shut the Surf Dawgs offense down except for a Matthew Connolly home run in the bottom of the fifth.

The first inning has caused San Diego trouble on this homestand and it continued tonight. Adonis Harrison singled and scored on a Jeff LaRue two-run home run to left-center field to make it 2-0 Long Beach.

Two innings later the Armada would strike again. Harrison would double and advance to third on the Randall Shelley groundout. LaRue would sting the Dawgs once again by singling to left field, scoring Harrison to make it 3-0 Long Beach. After stealing second, LaRue would score on a Chris Wakeland double and the Armada would lead 4-0 after two-and-a-half.

Dawgs starting pitcher Justin Ottman (0-1) would throw 4 2/3 innings allowing four runs on eight hits.

San Diego's only run came on a Matthew Connolly solo home run to right field. The home run is his first of the season and the first at Tony Gwynn Stadium this season for the Surf Dawgs.

Long Beach would plate four more runs on the night off the San Diego bullpen. Three of those four runs would come on two more Armada home runs. Jeff LaRue, the Armada left fielder, had a huge night, going 4-5 with a home run and three RBI's. The loss is the fourth in a row for the Dawgs and it is the third game in a row San Diego has lost by seven runs.

San Diego will look to Chris Gale (0-0) to hopefully stop the skid tomorrow vs. Long Beach. Long Beach will send out right-hander Paul Buchan (0-1). First pitch is slated for 6:05 p.m. PST, an hour earlier than normal.
