The Oneonta Outlaws returned to Damaschke Field on Wednesday evening to celebrate July 4th with baseball on the field and fireworks after the game. Unfortunately for the the hometown fans, the Outlaws were unable to best the visiting Glens Falls Golden Eagles, losing 9 to 5.
The Glens Falls squad was able to take advantage of 14 hits, along with 4 Oneonta fielding errors, to maintain their hold on second place in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League. The Golden Eagles were led by Mike Vigliarolo (Saint Louis) who had two hits, three RBI and a run. Other offensive production came from Ross Kivett (Kansas State) with three hits, one run and one RBI; Chase Griffin (Georgia Southern) with two hits, two runs and an RBI; and Alberto Morales (Clarendon) who had two hits, two RBI and a run. Sheldon Lee (San Francisco) took the loss for the Outlaws, allowing seven runs (three unearned) and ten hits.
For the Outlaws offense, while they were able to score five runs off 10 hits, they left seven men on base and were never able to generate the scoring run required to overtake the Eagles. Glens Falls starter Brandon Magallones (Northwestern) picked up the win, allowing four runs off eight hits in six innings of work. Shane Crain (Louisville) led the Outlaws with four hits and one run, while Sutton Whiting (Louisville) had two hits, two RBI and one run, with Logan Brown (Baylor) adding one hit, one run and an RBI in the losing effort.
The final line score was Glens Falls, 9 runs, 14 hits and 1 error, while Oneonta had 5 runs, 10 hits and 4 errors. Game time was 2:34 in front of 4,412 fans.
The Outlaws have dropped to fourth place, losing three of their last four games. They travel to Elmira to play the Pioneers on Friday evening and return to Damaschke on Saturday for a 7:00pm match-up with Newark.
