Outlaws Top Demonz In Comeback Effort

November 6, 2012 - Federal Prospects Hockey League (FPHL)
Williamsport Outlaws News Release

Williamsport, P.A. - It was a pretty slow start for the Williamsport Outlaws as they found themselves down 2-0 in the second period, but they were able to put it together and come away with a 3-2 win over the Dayton Demonz.

Dayton hopped out to a quick 1-0 lead over the Outlaws when Ty Ariss beat Chris Whitley at the 2:06 mark to capitalize on a slow start by the Outlaws.

The Outlaws were sparked by the goal but couldn't tie the game heading into the 2nd period.

The Demonz used a Whitley turnover that converted into a wrap-around-goal by Jesse Felton to give the Demonz a 2-0 lead early in the second period. That would be the last goal that Whitley would surrender on the night, as the Outlaws were awoken by the sloppy play.

Special teams got the Outlaws on the board when Matt Smyth blistered the twine on the power play to cut it to a 2-1 deficit at the 8:17 mark of the second period. Rob Sich would add the tying goal on a lose puck in front at the 13:04 mark of the period.

Play got physical near the end of the second period, but nothing boiled over.

The Outlaws suffered a scare off the opening faceoff of the third period, when Dayton won the faceoff and turned it into a break away opportunity that was turned away by Whitley.

The Outlaws would not surrender a good offensive look to Dayton for the remainder of the game.

Rob Sich would give the Outlaws the lead for good with a turn-around rocket that beat Gerry Festa at the 4:56 mark.

The Outlaws would hold off a late surge from the Demonz to secure their first win of the season.

Williamsport outshot Dayton 41 to 39 in the victory.

OUTLAWS LOSE 3-2 TO THE PRIVATEERS

Williamsport, P.A. - The Williamsport Outlaws felt that a few days off would help get them back on track against 1000 Islands, but the Privateers felt differently as they drop the Outlaws for the second straight meeting, 3-2.

The Privateers got on the board first when Brent Tamane beat Chris Whitley at the 5:17 mark to give the Privateers a 1-0 lead over the Outlaws. A lead that would not last long, as the Outlaws went on the Power Play after a Jordan Bernier two-minute hooking penalty at the 8:57 mark.

The Outlaws who have struggled on the Power Play this season, not converting through the first four games, were able to light the proverbial lamp when Matt Smyth beat Matt Anthony at the 10:02 mark.

Peter Campbell quickly got the Privateers back on top with a goal at the 11:20 mark of the first period, a 2-1 lead that the Privateers would take into the first intermission.

Both teams were held scoreless in the second period, but the hits were a plenty. Mike MacIntyre and Paul Arnott were handing out hits, much to the displeasure of the Privateers Terry Watt, who took a two-minute penalty for holding late in the period.

Jamie Zaleski got the crowd and the Outlaws fired up early in the third period after dropping the gloves with Watt. Both served five-minute fighting majors. The momentum was short lived by the Outlaws as Corey Bellamy beat Whitley to make it 3-1 in favor of the Privateers.

Nick Van Den Beld scored his first goal of the season at the 15:38 mark for the Outlaws to make it a 3-2 deficit.

Matt Anthony would shut the Outlaws down the rest of the way. Anthony would make 28 saves on 30 shots faced to get the win and take away the first star honors.

1000 Islands outshot the Outlaws 31-30 in the contest.
