Williamsport Outlaws News Release
WILLIAMSPORT - It was a pretty start for the Williamsport Outlaws as they found themselves down 2-0 in the second period, but they were able to put it together and come away with a 3-2 win over the Dayton Demonz.
Dayton hopped out to a quick 1-0 lead over the Outlaws when Ty Ariss beat Chris Whitley at the 2:06 mark to capitalize on a slow start by the Outlaws.
The Outlaws were sparked by the goal but couldn't tie the game heading into the 2nd period.
The Demoz used a Whitley turnover that converted into a wrap-around-goal by Jesse Felton to give the Demonz a 2-0 lead early in the second period. That would be the last goal that Whitley would surrender on the night, as the Outlaws were awoken by the sloppy play.
Special teams go the Outlaws on the board when Matt Smyth blistered the twine on the power play to cut it to a 2-1 deficit at the 8:17 mark of the second period. Rob Sich would add the tying goal on a lose puck in front at the 13:04 mark of the period.
Play got physical near the end of the second period, but nothing boiled over .
The Outlaws suffered a scare off the opening faceoff of the third period, when Dayton won the faceoff and turned it into a break away opportunity that was turned away by Whitley.
The Outlaws would not surrender a good offensive look to Dayton for the remainder of the game.
Rob Sich would give the Outlaws the lead for good with a turn-around rocket that beat Gerry Festa at the 4:56 mark.
The Outlaws would hold off a late surge from the Demonz to secure their first win of the season.
Williamsport outshot Dayton 41 to 39 in the victory.
The Outlaws travel to Cape Cod tomorrow for a showdown with the Bluefins. Game time is scheduled for 7:35pm.
