North Iowa Outlaws News Release

Mason City (IA) Positive reinforcement is one of the strongest ways of obtaining an objected habit and with that in mind the North Iowa Outlaws and the Mason City Public Library are teaming up to encourage area youths to read. The Outlaws and MCPL are unveiling this week the "Read and Score" program open to all area kids of any age, with the goal being to encourage recreational reading among youths.

Parents and kids can pick up a "Read and Score" card at either the Mason City Public Library or at the Outlaws' office located inside the Fairgrounds Arena. Then check out books from the MCPL, read the books, and each time a book is returned to the MCPL the kid receives a sticker on their card.

All kids who read at least three books receive a FREE ticket to the Outlaws' Saturday December 6th home game. Read six books and receive two FREE tickets and so on.

"We were looking for a way to not only get our players out in the community, but come up with something a little more creative that goes beyond a simple player appearance" said Outlaws' Director of Communications Scott Montesano. "Gretchen Hayes, the children activities director at the library, has been fantastic setting this all up."

Along with the "Read and Score" program, the Outlaws will also have players at the MCPL throughout the month of October.

The Outlaws (1-3-0) play their home opener this Friday night at 7:30 versus the Owatonna Express at the Fairgrounds Arena.

The North Iowa Outlaws Hockey Club is in its fourth season as members of the North American Hockey League. The NAHL is the nation's largest Junior A hockey league and is now in its 33nd year of operation. For more information, visit northiowaoutlaws.com or call (641) 424-5468.

Outlaws home games are played at the North Iowa Ice Arena in Mason City, IA. All games will be broadcasted on northiowaoutlaws.com and video broadcast through B/2 Network.
