Chico Outlaws News Release

CHICO- In a rematch of Friday's tied ball game, the Outlaws take down the Riley's Jerks in convincing fashion. In the most well-rounded team performance of the Spring, the Outlaws put up nine runs while blanking the Jerks Sunday afternoon.

The scoring started in the top of the second inning. Adam Buschini was the first to round the bases as an error by the Jerk's left fielder left him on third and the next batter, Al Quintana, hit a double to right-center for the game's first run. Although the Outlaws went on to score eight more times, they really just needed one as the pitching staff was brilliant. Demetrius Banks started the game's first three innnings, allowing only one hit while striking out three. In Banks last seven innings, he has whiffed seven batters while only giving up one hit. Paduch was next to through the ball for the Outlaws, pitching a Spring training best five innings. In his time on the mound, Paduch struck out seven while allowing just a lone walk. The strikeouts continued to pile up as Ryan Riddle brought the Outlaws total to 12 as he struck out two to close the ninth inning.

The other story of the day was the Outlaws' hitters. The long ball was the weapon of choice for the Outlaws as they scored seven of the game's nine runs on round trippers. McFall led the charge as he hit the game's first homerun in the 4th inning. Just three innings later, McFall reminded the Jerks of his power and knocked a no-doubter over the wall. The ball was hit so hard that the left fielder could do nothing more than throw his arms up in disbelief as he turned and watched the ball fly over his head.

Outside of McFall's power surge, three other Outlaws left the yard today. Lead off man Jay Pecci hit his first homerun of the Spring to lead off the 5th inning. Just an inning later, after a Jake Rife single, Al Quintana continued his hot Spring by hitting the ball over the center field wall to put the Outlaws on top 5-0. The last runs of the game came off the bat of Oscar Sigala. In the 8th inning, catcher Chris Caves hit a double off the center field wall only to be driven home by a Sigala homerun three batters later.

The exhibition game could be a foreshadowing of whats to come for the Outlaws this season. With the players hitting on all cylinders and the pitchers catching fire, it looks like the Outlaws are clicking as the season is just around the corner. After today's exhibition game, the team will have two more practices before heading to Yuma to kick off the 2011 season.
