Chico Outlaws News Release

ST. GEORGE, UT - For the second straight night, the Chico Outlaws posted double digits runs against St. George, and this time they would need every single one...the Outlaws withstood a furious Roadrunners rally in the bottom of the 9th to come away with an 11-10 victory Saturday night at Bruce Hurst Field and complete a sweep of a two-game mini-series.

Three batters into the game, Chico had a three-run lead - with two aboard, Tony Torcato blasted his first home run as an Outlaw over the right field fence...but in the bottom of the 1st, St. George rocked Chico starter Trevor Caughey as Eddy Garabito doubled home a pair and Angel Sanchez launched a two-run homer to go up 4-3. The Outlaws tied the game in the 2nd when Casey Garrison doubled and came home courtesy of two Mac Nelson wild pitches...but in the bottom of the 2nd a two-run homer by Greg Lemon and an RBI triple by Sanchez put the Roadrunners back on top 7-4.

It stayed that way until Chico tied the game in the 6th - two-out RBI singles by Luyben and Steve Boggs and a throwing error by Roadrunners second baseman Liu Rodriguez accounted for three runs and a seven-all ballgame...but St. George went back in front 8-7 in the bottom of the 6th as Caughey surrendered a solo homer to Ryan Stevenson. In the 8th the Outlaws took over the lead, this time for good - Chico batted around in the inning, combining four hits (including RBI singles by Boggs and Jesse Kovacs and a two-run single by Todd Gossage), two walks and a hit batter to go up 11-8. In the 9th Kevin Altman was brought in from the Outlaws bullpen to get the final three outs, but the Roadrunners didn't go quietly - Cody Nowlin delivered a two-out, two-run double and St. George went on to load the bases...but with the potential tying and winning runs in scoring position, Altman struck out Garabito swinging to end the game and give Chico its second straight win and the series sweep.

Ben Shockey (2-1), the second of four Outlaws pitchers, tossed a pair of scoreless innings to earn the victory, with Altman posting his first save of the season...Roadrunners reliever Claudio Galva (2-1) was tagged for the loss. Chico had 13 hits on the night, with Boggs going 3-for-5 with two RBI; Garrison also had three hits while Eric Pringle went 2-for-3...St. George racked up 15 hits in the losing effort; Sanchez and Stevenson leading the way with three hits apiece. Saturday's win upped Chico's second half record to 15-23 and overall mark to 30-50...St. George dropped to 20-17 in the second and 38-43 for the year. The Outlaws take the day off Sunday before continuing their longest road trip of the season Monday with the first of three against the Yuma Scorpions - right-hander Berek Fasking (2-4) will be on the mound for Chico in the series opener opposing righty Evan White (6-4). Game time is 7:05pm... hear all the action with Rory Miller calling the play-by-play on ESPN Radio 101.7 FM and AM 1340; the game can also be heard on-line at www.ChicoOutlawsBaseball.com.
