'Cats grounded by Flyers, drop 8-3 decision

Edmonton, AB-The Edmonton Cracker-Cats concluded their six game home stand, falling to the Orange County Flyers 8-3 in front of 598 fans at Telus Field. The Cats got off to an early 2-0 lead, but couldn't hold on as the Flyers scored four runs in the fourth to secure Orange County's first and only victory of the series.

‘Cats starter, Erik Van Slyke pitched 6.1 innings. His final numbers were 7H, 5R, 4ER, 1BB with 9 strikeouts.

Matt Durkin got the start for the Flyers. He went 7.0 innings, allowing 6H, 3R, 3ER, 2BB with 5 strikeouts.

The ‘Cats will take a few days off to prepare for their last five games of the regular season versus the Calgary Vipers. The games will serve as a playoff preview as both teams will meet in the playoffs beginning here in Edmonton, September 2nd and 3rd. Both teams will then head south for three games in Calgary on September 5-7th. The winner of the best of five series will move on to the second round to face the winner from the south division.
