Outlaws Survive Early Scare Against Bluefins

WILLIAMSPORT, PA - - In the first game after the All Star Game the Williamsport Outlaws found themselves in a close game against the New York Bluefins early. The Outlaws would survive the early scare and skate a way with a 7-4 win over the Bluefins.

Williamsport got on the board when Brian Yanovitch found the twine for the first time since joining the Outlaws at the 12:30 mark of the period. The assists were credited to Tyler Matheson and Brett Needham. New York would tie it up with a Michael Guerra power play goal at the 15:10 mark of the period, with the assists coming from Radoslov Konecny and Matt Maglione. Anthony Battaglia would break the tie with a rocket off the glove of Kevin Moore to give the Outlaws a 2-1 lead entering the first intermission.

Chris Whitley replaced Mike DiLorenzo between the pipes to start the second period. DiLorenzo made 15 saves on 16 shots faced in the first period. New York's Radoslov Konecny would tie the game in the second period at 2-2 with his goal at the 13:07 mark of the period. The assists came from Guerra and Maglione. The Outlaws, who tied the Bluefins in the second period with 20 shots a piece, finally found the twine behind Moore with a goal from Martin Moucha, who left the game in the first with an upper body injury, at the 19:27 mark of the second period to give the Outlaws a 3-2 lead after two periods of play. Needham and Chris Leveille were credited with the assists on the go ahead goal.

New York would make it even more interesting in the third period when they posted two straight goals to pull ahead 4-3. The first goal being scored by Bryan Mock at the :39 mark of the period to tie it at 3-3. Chris Hassler would put the Bluefins on top with a short handed goal to make it 4-3 at the 4:43 mark. The Outlaws would battle back and tie it with a goal from Matthew Puntureri at the 9:11 mark. Williamsport would complete the comeback when Battaglia found a streaking Tyler Matheson who beak Moore to make it 5-4 at the 11:22 mark. The Outlaws would tag on two more goals in the period, the first from Chris Leveille to make it 6-4 and then Battaglia would make it 7-4 with a goal at the 17:04 mark.

The Outlaws got great defensive play from Tim Recio (+4) and Tyler Matheson (+5, 1G and 2A) to help pick up the win.
