Outlaws Pitchers Dominate Simulated Game

Chico Outlaws News Release

CHICO- The Chico Outlaws resumed their Spring Training today after a day off yesterday due to heavy rain in the area. Although the infield looked more like a swimming pool than a baseball field in spots, the players took advantage of the beautiful weather by getting in a simulated game. The team broke into 4 groups, alternating fielding and hitting off the six pitchers who donned the mound Wednesday.

The Outlaw's pitchers looked in midseason form as they put on a clinic today. If the cast of Sesame Street would have visited Butte College Wednesday afternoon, the letter of the day almost certainly would've been "K". The six pitchers who took the hill combined to strike out 14 batters.

The game was a rematch of sorts between starting pitchers Demetrius Banks and Jim Paduch. The two squared off in Saturday's intra-squad scrimmage, both pitching two scoreless innings. Wednesday's simulated game was more of the same as both pitchers displayed their dominance over the Outlaws hitters. Paduch continued his torrid Spring as he allowed only one hit while striking out two in his four innings of work. Banks, meanwhile, may have wished this game took place a few weeks later as he couldn't have been better. Scheduled for four innings, Banks looked like he had a lot left in the tank as he didn't allow a single base runner on the day while striking out four.

The relievers followed suit by finishing out the nine inning affair strong. Jonny Bravo and Ryan Riddle each had two strikeouts apiece in their two innings of work. Jason Mackintosh followed Banks with three innings of his own, getting a strikeout and allowing only a few hits. The last to hit the stripe was UC Santa Barbara alum, Jason Roenicke. Roenicke had a superb two innings to close out the game, striking out three while allowing only a lone hit to slugger Chris Lubanski.

After a few days of Spring showers, the sky has opened up and the rest of the week looks to bring nothing but sunny days. Tomorrow's practice will mark just the fourth day of Spring Training and another opportunity for the players to shake off any rust before the season starts in Yuma May 26th.
