Chico Outlaws News Release
(Chico, CA. July 23rd, 2010) The Chico Outlaws are pleased to announce the City of Chico (CA) will bestow a proclamation of achievement on Outlaws pitcher Eri Yoshida at their regularly scheduled city council meeting on July 24th, 2010.
Chico Mayor Ann Schwab will present the proclamation to Yoshida at the beginning of the meeting. The proclamation will invite all citizens of Chico to congratulate Yoshida for her outstanding achievements on the diamond and the positive impact she has made on the City of Chico.
The city council meeting will begin at 8:30 am at the Chico Municipal Center, Council Chambers, 421 Main St, Chico, CA.
Yoshida, 18, a native of Yokohama, Japan, became the first woman to pitch professionally in two countries when she debuted for the Outlaws on May 29th against the Tijuana Cimarrones in Chico, throwing three innings and recording a hit in her first at-bat, driving in a run in the process. The jersey and bat she used in her debut game have been donated to the National Baseball Hall of Fame for use in their exhibit about women in professional baseball.
After pitching professionally last year in Japan for the Kobe Cruise 9 of the independent Kansai League, Yoshida pitched in the Arizona Winter League, an instructional league based in Yuma, AZ and run by the independent Golden Baseball League. Yoshida was drafted by the Outlaws out of the AWL Draft, signing a contract in April.
The Outlaws and Orange County Flyers start a three-game set at the Nett on Friday night in Chico as Yoshida makes her fifth start of the year. First pitch is set for 7:05 pm.
The game can be watched live at www.justin.tv.com/chicooutlawsbaseball or listened to at www.chicooutlaws.com on the Outlaws Baseball Network as Dan Hawkins brings you all the action of Outlaws baseball.
