Outlaws Drop Fifth Straight To Open Title Defense

Williamsport Outlaws News Release

WILLIAMSPORT - The Williamsport Outlaws felt that a few days off would help get them back on track against 1000 Islands, but the Privateers felt differently as they drop the Outlaws for the second straight meeting, 3-2.

The Privateers got on the board first when Brent Tamane beat Chris Whitley at the 5:17 mark to give the Privateers a 1-0 lead over the Outlaws. A lead that would not last long, as the Outlaws went on the Power Play after a Jordan Bernier two-minute hooking penalty at the 8:57 mark.

The Outlaws who have struggled on the Power Play this season, not converting through the first four games, were able to light the proverbial lamp when Matt Smyth beat Matt Anthony at the 10:02 mark.

Peter Campbell quickly got the Privateers back on top with a goal at the 11:20 mark of the first period, a 2-1 lead that the Privateers would take into the first intermission.

Both teams were held scoreless in the second period, but the hits were a plenty. Mike MacIntyre and Paul Arnott were handing out hits, much to the displeasure of the Privateers Terry Watt, who took a two-minute penalty for holding late in the period.

Jamie Zaleski got the crowd and the Outlaws fired up early in the third period after dropping the gloves with Watt. Both served five-minute fighting majors. The momentum was short lived by the Outlaws as Corey Bellamy beat Whitley to make it 3-1 in favor of the Privateers.

Nick Van Den Beld scored his first goal of the season at the 15:38 mark for the Outlaws to make it a 3-2 deficit.

Matt Anthony would shut the Outlaws down the rest of the way. Anthony would make 28 saves on 30 shots faced to get the win and take away the first star honors.

1000 Islands outshot the Outlaws 31-30 in the contest.

The next time out for the Outlaws will be tomorrow night at home against the Dayton Demonz at 7:05pm at Airmen Pond at Historic Bowman Field, as the Outlaws look for their first win of the season.
